This course has been developed with the input of graphic design professionals on the Course Advisory Committee at the Academy. The course has a unique structure which enables students to change their choice of major study at the end of Semester 1, undertake sub major and minor studies in other disciplines, take elective studies at other institutions, undertake professional placement programs, continue to a double major in graphic design-advertising or graphic design photo media in a fourth year of study, continue to a BA Honours (Graphic Design), defer with an Associate Degree after two years. The course is aimed at developing highly sought after graduates who are recognised for their creative and independent thinking.

Students must have successful completion of the VCE or equivalent or relevant industry experience plus an approved folio of relevant work. Mature-age students are encouraged to apply. All applicants must attend an interview with a portfolio of their own creative work.

The Australian Academy of Design was recognised as a Registered Training Organization (RTO No. 4656) in 1999 by the Office of Training and Tertiary Education (OTTE) after it was inaugurated in 1998 by the Australian Academy of the Arts. In 2001 the Academy was registered on Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students. The state of the art studios at the Australian Academy of Design provide an exciting creative environment for students to study in a wide range of advertising, fashion design, graphic design, photo media, web design and visual arts. The computer labs are equipped with industry-standard computing equipment and software. The large former factory building also houses the Academy’s Clement Meadmore Gallery where the work of faculty, graduating students, visiting artists and designers and other emerging and outstanding artists is exhibited. The faculty at the Australian Academy of Design includes professional advertising creatives and copywriters, fashion designers, graphic designers, photographers, multimedia designers and visual artists who are also committed and highly successful educators.
